I moved to Texas from Virginia in July 2013, specifically to the city of Austin and the Texas capital. I had preconceived notions about Texas before moving, but having been here for over a decade, I want to share things I notice which are unique about Austin and Texas.
Austin
Barton Springs Pool
I live near Barton Springs Pool and it is a natural spring-fed pool that is 68 degrees year-round. It is a popular place to swim, sunbathe, and relax. It is a great place to cool off in the summer and is a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. There is an endangered species of salamander called the Barton Springs Salamander which is native to the pool. Also when you swim, fish swim besides you and there is an interesting diving board where people line up to show their skills. On New Years Day, there is a polar plunge which is fun to do and see the thousands of people who come out to jump in. The pool is located in Zilker Park, which is a large park in the heart of Austin. The park is home to many events and festivals throughout the year, including the Austin City Limits Music Festival and the Zilker Kite Festival. It is free admission before 8am and after 9pm.

Places I like and visit
78704
This is the zip code where I live. I live in Zilker but there are other parts of 78704 like Barton Hills, Bouldin Creek and Travis Heights. Zilker and Barton Hills are divided by Rabb Road. Bouldin Creek and Zilker are divided by South Lamar Blvd. Bouldin Creek and Travis Heights are divided by South Congress Ave. Barton Springs Road and Riverside Drive connect Zilker to Travis Heights from east to west. Here are some of the places I frequent:
Taco Deli
The first year I rented a block from the original Taco Deli. I describe them as foodie tacos. They have a variety of tacos with unique ingredients. They have a salsa bar with a variety of salsas.
Texas
Texas DQ
Texas DQ is a different franchise than the national brand, and is the original founding group since 1940. They are proud of their Texas roots and the following commercials from 2014 and 2015 rang in my head all the time. Their tagline is "That's what I like about Texas." I met the actor in the Cool Down commercial randomly who was a waiter in an Austin restaurant, I showed him the video. He didn't know it existed as a recording and ran around the restaurant showing his friends.
H-E-B
H-E-B is a grocery store chain in San Antonio and serves Texas and Mexico's border cities. It is more affordable than Whole Foods and most stores. It makes some products with its name of them, e.g., tortilla chips, pasta, ketchup, salsa, and ice cream. Their produce is high-quality and low-priced. Their tagline is "No store does more than my H-E-B." H-E-B advertises heavily on TV with a Texas theme.
Big flags
As I rolled down I-35 from Dallas near the end of my cross-country drive from Virginia, I began noticing very large flags at car dealerships. They fly American flag and often the state of Texas flag.
